256 Points

I did the 256 Points visual assignment. So above is a picture of my superhero Charlie Sass! This assignment was perfect because she would prefer to keep her identity a secret. The picture itself is only 16 x 16 pixels… making an image this small was definitely challenging. I wanted to keep as much detail in the picture as possible, and I wanted the iconic red hair to show.

Color changer

I did the Color Changer assignment and played around with the hue. I think the end result was kinda cool. I took this picture in Helsingborg, Sweden (my hometown). I was sitting at a beach side restaurant with my friends having a few drinks and there was this kid playing in the sand all by himself. The beach was completely empty because it was around 8 pm, and the minute I thought “Oh this would be a pretty picture” I saw the ship in the background. Those kinds of ships don’t pass through our waters very often so I’m glad I got to snap this picture. I changed the colors to the end result you see above because I wanted to keep the light in the picture. I was playing around with the red hue too, but I thought the sky looked nicer blue.

Not a shadow of a doubt

My wedding ring that has yet to be worn. 223 days to go!

For this assignment I wanted to do something meaningful, so I immediately started thinking about my engagement ring, but the pictures didn’t turn out as well as I had wanted. So I shifted my thought process over to the wedding band, what’s more symbolic than a wedding ring just waiting to be worn? It took a while to get the ring to balance on the pages of the book, it fell over about a 1000 times. That’s why it’s a little crooked in the picture too, cause I didn’t want to move it again. I think it came out good regardless 🙂

Photoreflection

I’ve always loved the idea of being a photographer. When I was 15-16, my boyfriend at the time and I would spent tons of time taking pictures of anything we could find outside that could be considered artistic. My dad had bought a Canon Eos at the time, but didn’t know how to use it. So I got to play with it. I was never really good at editing pictures though, all I did was change contrast and stuff, I think that’s why I never really got into it. Learning photoshop seemed daunting, and as a 16 year old I didn’t want to spent the money or honestly devote the time for it.

Today I don’t own a camera. I take all pictures with my iPhone. Which isn’t bad, it definitely works since I’m not trying to take professional photos. I’m bad at taking pictures though, during all our travels my fiancé is the one who takes all pictures. I’m too busy seeing and experiencing to remember to use my camera. I think when I do decide to try and capture feelings or meaning in pictures that they turn out pretty good. Far from professional, but pretty decent.

To get better at taking photos, I need to think about lighting and angle and to take my time and not rush through my pictures.

Below are a few examples of pictures I’ve taken once upon a time.

Weekly Summary #2

Week two comes to a close and we’ve dove head first into the superhero theme.

The first assignment I spent a lot of time thinking about what defines a superhero, turns out I can’t really define it. The term itself is just so darn broad. My fiancé was really jealous when he walked in on me watching the Tick and I explained it was for a school assignment though. He grew up watching this stuff, but for me it was the first time.

What is a superhero?

Watching the Shape of Stories made me laugh pretty hard, I’ve been familiar with this concept for years after having taken about a million writing and film classes, but nevertheless, it was funny. There’s obviously a reason why the stories are all following these patterns, I mean Hollywood is on to something. I had a harder time relating it to the episode with the Tick that I watched, I think it was just too short. I don’t think the graph or curve he was talking about can always be applied to series that are shorter. I’ve watched plenty of shows that don’t really have a “climax” for several episodes and then everything happens all at once instead. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that for series, I suppose they still follow one of these curves but over the entire season instead? And the curve would be a little skewed since series tend to end in cliff hangers before a new season anyway.

The Shape of Stories

Writing the Character Dossier was fun. The hardest part was coming up with the name. Charlie is a name I used when I was younger and bar hopping and didn’t want people (guys) to know my real name or phone number, lol. Some of the info in the dossier is based off me, it’s true facts about me. Like the birthday and the tattoo for example. I won’t reveal anything else.

Character Dossier

For the writing assignments I went with Day in the life of a superhero for the pick 1/2.  The generator gave me Dream Bat and a little background info, so I explained a day in the life of dream bat.

Dream Bat

I did Up-Goer Five Your Writing which is basically just try to write a short text in the editor that only allows you to use the top ten most common 1000 words. It was really hard. I was literally googling synonyms to some of the simplest words, which unfortunately didn’t help…

Up-Goer Five Your Writing

Next writing assignment was Emotional Lyrics. I choose love as my emotion and three very different songs to demonstrate different kinds of love.

Emotional Lyrics

I wrote Dear Future Husband to my fiancé which was very fitting so that was really easy and straight from the heart.

Dear Future Husband

Finally, to relate a writing assignment to our theme I did an Acrostic Poem about Charlie Sass, my superhero! It’s uploaded to Flickr as well.

Acrostic Poem

For this week’s daily creates I haven’t been quite on top of it (time wise) as I was last week, I’ve been really busy. But here they are!

Just a few comments on some blogs, got plenty more on Twitter.

Acrostic Poem

This is my acrostic poem about my superhero Charlie Sass and her brother Nathan. They are the most awesome sibling fighting combo ever.

Dear Future Husband

Dear future husband,

Our wedding is 226 days away today. It’s been 695 days since we decided to give this a try and I can’t tell you how thankful I am for that today. You were the most unexpected thing to ever happen to me, you came into my life at a time when I didn’t expect to be able to love anyone. Then I met you, and we just clicked. No drama, no doubts, no questions. It was just like my soul went “Oh hey, it’s you. I’ve been looking for you”.  I could go on forever trying to explain what you mean to me. You’re my rock, my best friend, my number one fan. I wouldn’t be half the person I am today if I hadn’t met you. You make me want to be better, try harder, and keep going. Everything in my life has gotten better since I met you. You’re my greatest blessing.

All I ask of you, is to always love me. Even when I’m at my worst because that’s when I’ll need it the most. Be patient, and understanding. Be kind and forgiving.  And always kiss me goodnight.  I can’t wait to be your wife.

I love you!

Emotional Lyrics

Up-Goer Five Your Writing

Every summer I fly home to work and make some money so I can continue with school. I work in a store that has things for things you do outside. Like take care of roses or build things. It is a small store, with about ten people working there. I am the big man’s right hand, so I do paper work too and not just put things up for people to buy. We have about 400 paying people every day but probably 1400 people who enter the store every day. It’s not a fun job, but it will do for now.

So this was really hard to do.  I wrote a short text about my job and what I do every summer when I fly home, then I went to http://splasho.com/upgoer5/ and used the editor to re-write my text only using the top most common 1000 words. It was incredibly hard and it sounds like a first grader wrote it. Oh well.

Dream Bat

I am Dream Bat. I was living on the streets when I found a mysterious and powerful artefact – now, it has transformed me beyond recognition, and every day I must try to use my new abilities wisely, as well as resisting the temptation for revenge…

My abilities are dream control and flight. I have the power to enter, explore, manipulate and control my own (or anybody else’s) dreams and I can fly through the air at near-supersonic speeds! Now, I protect Chicago from corrupt government officials, while also battling the evil plans of Hatchet Hector!

I wake up to the sound of my alarm at 7 sharp every morning. I need at least one solid routine in my life otherwise I’d crumble. I drag myself out of bed and get my morning workout routine done, after that I shower and sit in front of the TV watching the news while I drink my morning coffee. I invented something called a Buzzer. It’s basically a pager, that reacts to any evil or severe lies being told in any government building in Chicago. As you can imagine, lying government officials aren’t all that uncommon so the buzzer used to go off all the time, until I managed to program it differently. Now it only buzzes when I really need to intervene. I keep it with me at all times, as well as a notebook that I use to jot down names of people I like to keep track of. In order for me to enter someone’s mind, I need to know their full name and preferably their location. I go through the minds of every government official on a weekly schedule, just to make sure they’re doing what they are supposed to and nothing else. Occasionally, I go through the minds of other people I meet through the day as well. Like this morning, the Starbucks lady gave me free coffee for no reason at all, isn’t that strange? Oh well.

*Buzz Buzz*

Oh well, would you look at that. Congressman Charleston is up to no good. Dream Bat to the rescue!
