Advice from someone who knows better…

Don’t drop this class because you get scared from all the warnings about the workload!

Don’t get me wrong, it is a pretty heavy workload for a 100-level class, but if you just plan a little bit and you stick with it, it’s going to be the best online class you’ve taken! Even with the heavy workload, the class is so well structured it’s really easy to just check things off. You’ll get in the groove after the first week!

I know it’s cliché but try not to procrastinate, it will make this class a lot more enjoyable if you aren’t completely stressed out. And try to have fun. I learned so much from this class, it’s really a hidden gem amongst UMW classes.

Week 14

So this is my weekly summary, post final crisis project. I had a lot of fun making it, and it might be a little cheesy with the special effects but I had a lot of fun making this and I thought it turned out pretty cool. I’m beyond amazed by the things you can actually do in iMovie, I mean trying to put together a similar project on a PC would’ve been a nightmare. Long live Mac!

Everything I used to make this project (all three parts) were either completely created by me, or taken from free sources like free sound, free music archive , production crate and storyboard that. While I was making this project, I was thinking back to the beginning of the semester when I first downloaded audacity and was trying to figure that out. How daunting this project would’ve seemed then… I’ve learned A LOT this semester. So thank you Professor Bond! This has been a lot of fun.

The final crisis

Charlie and Nathan are on the road to Raleigh, North Carolina. They are laughing and singing along to whatever is on the radio. It’s been a slow week, Charlie has been itching for something to do but everything has been suspiciously calm. They are heading to North Carolina to check out a rumor about a poltergeist that is supposedly terrorizing a young couple. Charlie twirls a necklace between her fingers as she drives.

At this same moment, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, a young girl named Emma is not quite so blissfully happy.

While Charlie and Nathan quickly turn the car around and start heading north….

The town is surrounded with dark shadowy evil figures… bodies are laying on the streets. What do they want? And will they be stopped?

Find out in part 3…

Progress report

I feel like I haven’t blogged here in forever. I have an idea for my final crisis! I’d like to use image, video and audio to tell my story, Charlie Sass will be in it and somehow save the day. I started making the video part and I’m putting it together in iMovie. I started playing around with special effects (I’m learning so much about iMovie) and found a website called Production Crate that has a bunch of special effects clips and green screen effects to download. This is going to be fun! I aim to have the video done by Tuesday so I can focus on audio and image/visual after that… I’m considering making one part a comic.

Oh yeah and I’m working alone, I like it better that way!

Until next time!

Weekly summary #12

Another week comes to an end and the semester is almost over. This week was fun!

For the mashup assignments this week I did:

Disney Mashup

Disney Mashup

Holiday Mashup

Have a thankful, scary New Years!

Superhuman in everyday life

and the Actor Transformation

Jennifer Aniston through the years

Here’s my tutorial for how to make a mashup:

Here are my two remix assignments:

That’s not what I expected

aaaand my daily creates:

I completed the Superhuman in everyday life assignment (3 stars). I used a picture of lake Anna where I spend a lot of time, then I found a png picture of a flying woman because flying would be my preferred superpower, then used GIMP to layer the woman over the background picture. Here’s the result:

That’s not what I expected

For my second Remix assignment, I was tasked to “take a close up picture of something and see if people can guess what it is. Try doing the skin or outside of something that would make it hard for someone to guess!” in the original assignment, but the remix one told me to change the media. So I turned the visual assignment into an audio one, then I uploaded it to soundcloud.

For my first Remix assignment, I was tasked to create a collage of the opposite of peaceful places. I decided to use Charlie Sass’ least favorite places and things that generally make her scared or uneasy.

I dowloaded a collage app on my phone and arranged the pictures in there, the I uploaded it to twitter.

Jennifer Aniston through the years

So I did the Actor transformation (2,5 stars) mashup, to show how Jennifer Aniston has evolved since the beginning of her career in the 90s. I want to know the woman’s secrets though because she honestly hasn’t changed much in 30 years. Crazy.

I used Quicktime to record my screen while the movie clips were running and then put it all together in iMovie. I added a song from free music archive as background music and uploaded to youtube!

Have a thankful, scary New Years!

I finished the Holiday Mashup (4,5 stars) assignment and choose the three holidays that Charlie Sass likes the best. Thanksgiving, Halloween and New Years! I found a good scary background, and then I layered different png pictures over the background to represent the three holidays. I used GIMP for the assignment, and didn’t run into any issues.

Here’s the result:
